I have never really been one to go on mission trips. I had been on a few local ones here and there, and occasionally a trip to Mexico for a day mission trip. I had never done anything longer than a day until I went to Vanuatu this past August. I was in church one Sunday morning and they were announcing upcoming mission trips, and this trip was mentioned. For some odd reason, I felt the Lord calling me and pressing on my heart to go. I was somewhat hesitant at first, but after talking to my Mom about it, we decided to go together. I mean after all, it was on the most beautiful tropical island I had ever seen before. It was definitely the best experience of my life. I learned so much and grew so much deeper in my spiritual life and walk with the Lord. While we were there, we stayed in a bush village about 6+ hours from the nearest town. We slept on the ground in bamboo huts, bathed in the local river, washed our clothes in buckets of water, went to the bathroom in a hole, and ate the local food prepared by the villagers. It was the most difficult 5 days of my life. However, the connections and relationships I made with the villagers made up for everything. We went to this bush village to build a Bible bush church. This brought a lot of honor and respect to the tribe and it's chief. Other villages from all over, some days walks away, would come each Sunday to hear the word of God. It was truly amazing to see how happy and blessed these people were with so little. It changed my view and perspective on life an has opened my eyes to the bigger picture. We were in Vanuatu for a total of 17 days, so we were also blessed with the ability to explore the island when we returned from the bush village. I will never forget my experience there, or the people who left a lasting mark on my heart. I love those people, and I love that country. I am so incredibly blessed to have been able to go. I am hoping to return this upcoming July for another 2 and a half weeks. I am looking forward to what God has in plan for me. I've even considered going into missions work there. So crazy how God can change people's hearts and minds so quickly! Can't wait to see what God has in store for me!
